Located on a sensitive and highly protected fjord outside Oslo, this project operates as both a boutique hotel and a dedicated retreat for musical writing and recording with a connection to the landscape. The brief demanded a careful negotiation: satisfying stringent planning scrutiny that called for a context driven architectural response, while seamlessly integrating demanding acoustic facilities and refined, tactile spaces.

Our approach was to create a quiet but radical building clad in shou sugi ban shingles to mirror the recognisable fjordside vernacular black ceramic roof tiles. Inside, a warm stripped back material palette belies the contemporary technology performance both environmentally and acoustically.
